I am interested in building and characterizing photocatalytic systems that coupling semiconductor nanocrystals and molecular electrocatalysts to facilitate efficient catalyst photo-reduction and turnover. By using known CO2 and proton reduction catalysts such systems have great potential to drive the reductive half of the water splitting reaction in a solar fuel production scheme. Also, by coupling catalytic turnover to photoexcitation, mechanistic studies of these electrocatalysts can be carried out using time-resolved spectroscopic techniques on fast timescales. My interests also include Raman spectroscopy and playing my guitars when I get the chance.
