This is the start of the PBL process.  If you need help in filling out these forms, review the information in the PBL Process.  After you have filled all the first four forms, you can proceed to the SELF DIRECTED LEARNING stage of the PBL process.

Read through the information in the CASEBOOK. You will find all kinds of information. Some information will be useful and relevant and some will be red herrings. When you are ready, proceed to the forms and fill them out.  You will only be allowed one submission.  You cannot edit the submitted material once it is submitted.  Be concise and grammatical.

Steps in the PBL Process

Questions to ask at this step.

 FACTS

Is this information a FACT? Am I inferring from some other fact or is it actually known? Why is it important?

IDEAS / HYPOTHESES

What are my ideas on this problem? What do I think is going on? What do the facts suggest? What can I deduce from the facts?
Try to start your response with "Maybe...."

 LEARNING ISSUES

Do I have enough information to decide if my ideas are correct or wrong? How can I rule out a hypothesis? What technique/topic do I need to learn about in order to rule out an idea?
We will suggest some topics for learning issues too.

 ACTION PLAN

What specific action items do I need to perform? (For example, interview a witness, test the blood for drugs...)
