Welcome to Virtual Sherlock. We provide training for the forensic chemist. Your goal is to solve the crimes in the casebook. Remember, in order to solve these crimes, you will need to use all your deductive abilities and learn about the tools of the forensic investigator. Sherlock Holmes' reputation was built on his deductive reasoning and scientific approach, so let him be your guide.
What is Virtual Sherlock?Virtual Sherlock is an interactive tutorial that will allow you to investigate and learn science, develop your analytical skills and improve your problem solving abilities.
Your Goal: To be trained as a forensic chemist. You will need to master the underlying science in enough depth to solve the crime but also to serve as an expert witness. Do I need to remind you that these courtroom sessions can be very intense? In order to accomplish your goals, you will need to learn some new material and revisit some old material. Consult the Goals document regularly for detailed information on what you will need to master. Learning this material is your responsibility.
Discussion We have a Discussion area open for you. Use it to talk to your friends and to me. You can ask questions, express opinions and ask for help. I will be posting comments on your postings from time to time, so be sure to check this area regularly.
Levels Each case is structured into different levels. You will advance levels on completing the tasks for that level. For example, you will move to Level 2 only after you have finished posting the information in the PBL Board for Level 1. You will need to complete the levels in a timely manner.
The PBL Process We expect you to use the PBL process in solving this problem.
Need help? You can mail the Chief. Begin your training by visiting the Goals and Resources pages. Once you're ready to view the evidence, proceed to the Casebook. The game is afoot, good luck!
