The D8 SMART APEX II diffractometer has the Lockheed 485 APEX CCD detector, which is the most sensitive 4K detector for small molecule crystallographic studies. Crystals as small as 0.03 Å3 can be examined and publishable structures obtained. Poorly diffracting and various types of twinned crystals can also be examined successfully.
